According to the 1937 Side Track Record, Blanton had a 420' loading track (track number 829). This track and a section laborer’s house were retired in 1938. The station was listed as abandoned in the C&O Index of Stations and Tunnels (1943, updated to 1969). Given its proximity to Wickham and the fact that there’s a Blanton building in Richmond, I suspect that the Blanton family was prominent in local politics and that the stop once served the plantation of the Blanton family.

I picked this slide up in an eBay auction. No location was written on the slide frame, but the eBay seller said that it was in Virginia. Gary Smith said that it looks a lot like the Route 54 grade crossing in Hanover County. After checking out that crossing on Google, I have to agree. If that identification is correct, this is Blanton. The loading track would have been to the left of the road and on the photographer’s side of the tracks. The slide was undated, but since the caboose is still in red paint, I’m guessing early 1950’s. (Photographer unknown. From a slide in the collection of Larry Z. Daily.)
