Sometime before 1960 Sandco began appearing on C&O Employee timetables (1960 is the earliest I have on which it appears, but my next earliest is 1950). According to Gleb Taran, a local resident, this was the site of a commercial sand and gravel pit located between Rady Road and the C&O. Sandco lent its name to CSX’s first DTC block on the Piedmont Sub.
